Our graduating students received some bonus mentoring time while we navigated some local emergencies and challenges that delayed their graduation, but they are finally graduating next week!!! In Africa, working with the community and networki

In Africa, working with the community and networking is key to success. Head teacher Priscilia works at the nearby government school and works in collaboration with our staff to provide the best education for the students. From resources and pedagogical strategies to preparing the students for transferring to the government school in their later years, it is wonderful to see staff supporting one another in what would otherwise be a very isolated setting.

Beans and legumes are accessible and a great sourc

Beans and legumes are accessible and a great source of protein for our students in Tanzania. Many of them walk 10km to get to school and due to a lack of resources, the only meal they often eat each day is the one we provide.

Did you know nearly 1 in 5 girls are still not completing lower-secondary and nearly 4 in 10 girls are not completing upper-secondary school today.

We are providing girls with choices, standing with them to build a better future and supporting them to take action to be protected, respected and empowered. Will you stand with us?

With the right support, resources and opportunities, the potential of the world’s 1.1 billion girls is limitless. The impact is immediate and wide reaching; families, communities and economies are all stronger.

4 years ago Rebecca went on an Instagram hunt to find our perfect local documentary photographer. Upon stumbling on the work of @arty_bashizi we knew she was the one.

Arlette is committed to documenting the plight of women and children in Congo, capturing the important place women and children have in the community.

We have Arlette’s talent to thank for enabling all of us to visualise the work Harvest Hope Africa is doing on the other side of the world.

Arlette’s career has grown significantly since that time, now on assignment for Reuters, New York Times, The Washington Post, and Unicef. We also have built our team of photographers, but Arlette was our first and only female photographer.

As we get closer to International Day of Girls we’re acknowledging some of the incredible women who have made our work in Goma, Congo possible. Deborah is our ‘Mama in the house’. She is our go-to leader who alongside Daniel, our program manager, is in charge of the daily operations of the training centre and co-operative.

Deborah brings maturity well beyond her years and works tirelessly for our students. She knows each by name, their personal situation and where they need the most help. Deborah simply has a heart of gold.

Did you know Harvest Hope Africa operates in 4 languages? That’s right, in any one meeting we can be speaking in English, Tananian Swahili, French and Congolese Swahili. Our paperwork is in 3 languages and we run different default languages on our computers.

On this International Translation Day, we recognise that whilst we are not language professionals by trade, we are very thankful for the skills of our core team to be able to bypass language barriers and work as one, cohesive team to achieve our goals.

One of the main goals of our sewing training program is to make it possible for our participants to achieve their goal of building financial independence. With 12 months of intervention, they learn a trade skill that results in them being able to look after themselves and their children. What a success story!
